Psalm 22 (NIV)

Focus Verse

But you, Lord, do not be far from me. You are my strength; come quickly to help me.

Psalm 22:19 (NIV)

Devotion

David is in crisis. Yet, it is obvious he has a relationship with God by the way he began with “My God, My God”...

A part of David feels as though God has abandoned him. However, during this time of crisis, he still acknowledges God as Great and mighty! (v3) He remains steadfast remembering that God has been with him since birth. (v9-10) Essentially, he is reminding himself that he knows God has plans for his life. (Jeremiah 29:11) Therefore, he knows that he will get through this situation with God. (v19)

David’s enemies had caused him to lose all strength physically. He was empty, depleted, and had nothing to give. (v14-15) As David is have a talk with God, he feels his prayer is answered. (v21) The feeling of abandonment is no longer there. He may still be in the crisis, but he has been comforted by God. David is reassured that God is with him in the crisis.

Application

We encounter challenges in our families, at our jobs, as well as other areas of life that cause us to feel depleted and empty the same as David. But his little talk with God changed his perspective. In crisis, have a little talk with Jesus, rather than call friends and family or post on social media. Continually maintain a personal relationship with our Heavenly Father. He is always present. Call on Him and know that he is your refuge and will not forsake you.

Prayer

Lord it is my desire to know you deeper and apply your principles to my life. Thank you for being in the midst of the crisis with me. In Jesus name. Amen.
